Hong Kong Red Cross Provides First Aid and Psychological Support Services Appeals to all parties that the medical needs of the injured should be considered a priority Ensures access to humanitarian assistance should not be obstructed
(Hong Kong, 18 November 2019) After taking humanitarian needs into consideration and discussing with different parties, the Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC) entered the campus of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and provided First Aid Services for anyone in need this afternoon. The HKRC also continues providing Emergency Psychological Support Services, to render emotional support for the affected.
In the afternoon of 18 November 2019, the HKRC deployed 14 staff and volunteers, including 2 medical doctors and 2 nurses, with first aid equipment (for example, Trauma First Aid Kit, Scoop Stretcher, Sterilisation Utensils, Gauze, Dressing and Automated external defibrillator (AED), etc.), to the Hong Kong Polytechnic University to provide first aid services for anyone in need. Bonnie So, Secretary-General of the HKRC, said "The HKRC First Aid Services Team provided services to 40 people, some of them had suspected fractures over limbs, head injuries, burn injuries and skin necrosis resulting from prolonged inflammation, etc. Among all, 6 patients were arranged ambulance service voluntarily, and 20 more to be sent. We, once again, appeal to all parties that the medical needs of the injured should be considered a priority and ensure access to humanitarian assistance should not be obstructed."
Since mid-June, the HKRC has been providing first aid and psychological support services to people affected by the social events and already served over 2,300 people. We urge all parties to stay calm and exercise constraint and, by adopting humanitarian considerations, seek solutions to resolve the present situation to avoid worsening. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and strive to provide appropriate support in response to the needs.
