Patient Concern Service


Hong Kong Red Cross Patient Concern Service has been in operation since 1973. HKRC mobilizes volunteers to provide regular visits, companion and escort service, recreational activities, mobility equipment loan service, library service and free magazine distribution for patients of Hospital Authority hospitals, so as to bring care and encouragement to service recipients during their recovery period.

Patient Concern Service

Introduction

  • Hong Kong Red Cross hospital-based libraries are established in Hospital Authority hospitals to provide book loan and free magazine distribution service to in-patients

Service Content

  • Hospital-based Libraries: Patient libraries, with book loans and free magazines distribution, are set up in public hospitals.
  • Free Magazine Distribution: Providing free magazines to inpatients.

Service Objectives

  • To provide a channel for in-patients to obtain information and keep contact with the outside world through book loan and magazine distribution
  • To provide psychosocial support to in-patients through expression of concern and care by volunteers during the distribution of magazines.

 

Patient Companion and Escort Service

Service Introduction

  • Provide route direction enquiry and escort service for patients and visitors

Service Objective

  • Provide more supportive service for patients and visitors in hospitals

Service Content

  • Directional and guidance: Our volunteers are deployed to provide directory and guidance service for the patients and visitors at the lobby of main entrance of hospital.
  • Escort Service: Our volunteers help to escort the in-patients to receive medical check / appointment in a same-cluster hospital.

 

Patient Caring Programme
Service Introduction

  • The Hong Kong Red Cross organizes recreational and rehabilitative activities for patients of 16 Hospital Authority hospitals.

Service Objectives

  • To provide needed activities for hospital clients;
  • To deliver care and concern to the patients in need; to help them get through loneliness.

Service Content

  • To organize and deliver recreational and caring activities for patients including ward visits, interest classes, festival celebrations and film shows.
