Enhancing the Mental Wellbeing of Youth through Community Capacity Building

About the Series

Capacity building is an effective and applicable direction in strengthening community resilience in mental health. The Psychosocial Centre of IFRC suggested that peer support, lay counseling, and Psychological First Aid are the fundamental activities for psychosocial support responses and capacity building in the community. The activities assist in preventing and curing the mental health problem. The risk of mental health problems would decrease when community stakeholders engage in psychosocial support activities, in which timely responses and support to those with immediate psychological needs exist and are reachable (IFRC Psychological Centre, 2009, 2014; Danish Red Cross & IFRC Reference Centre for Psychological Support, 2015).

In light of the immense mental health needs of young people amidst the rapidly changing landscape of Hong Kong, this series has been developed to significantly improve the mental wellbeing of youth in the region. The series comprises three capacity-building activities aimed at empowering both youth and youth workers in the community.
