Volunteer Policy

Volunteer Policy
The Mission Statement of the Hong Kong Red Cross states that "As part of the International Red Cross Movement, we dedicate ourselves to: protect human life, care for the health of the vulnerable, respect human dignity, by mobilizing people to serve voluntarily for the cause of humanity." It is our vision that "people are ready to offer impartial and voluntary aid to help improve the lives of vulnerable people."  The reason to formulate the Volunteer Policy is to put in practice the Mission Statement and to set out the Agency's goals and pledges in the involvement and management of volunteers.

Our Policy Goals
Through the involvement of volunteers, we hope to:

  • Let more people know about the Red Cross Movement and thus to promote the spirit of the Red Cross, people helping people
  • Deliver and develop our humanitarian services
  • Actualize the fundamental principle of Voluntary Service
  • Help us to be more sensitive and responsive to the needs of the vulnerable people
  • Stimulate the personal development of our volunteers
  • Provide opportunities for the public to support, monitor and give recognition to our services

Our Pledge

  • Encourage volunteers to participate in Red Cross service at implementation, management and decision making levels
  • Help volunteers to understand the meaning of our services and become promoters of the Red Cross humanitarian missions
  • Provide support and development for our volunteers
  • Encourage volunteers to pioneer service to meet unmet service needs in the community
  • To encourage and empower vulnerable people to be involved in voluntary services for self help and mutual care
