6 Red Cross Medical Professional Volunteers Joined the Relief Effort

(Hong Kong.15 May 2008.7pm) The first Hong Kong Red Cross medical professional volunteer team of 6 has arrived a severely hit area - Beichuan county (北川縣) – to help to medicate the injured victims there. The Red Cross relief team also solicited drinking water, food and basic medicine to be distributed to the affected areas. Continuous needs assessment in the worst-hit areas like Mianyang (綿陽市) and Beichuan is also being carried out at the same time.

‘Besides distributing biscuits, water and tents, we are also purchasing basic medicine to support the Red Cross medical team in Beichuan county,’ said Ms Eleanor Lam, Senior International & Relief Officer, who is working in Beichuan and Mianyang at the moment. “The local Red Cross temporary medical station has received more than 100 patients in a single day.” Many victims from Beichuan county have been re-settled in tents in nearby An county (安縣) and Mianyang .
